Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Word! And for inspiring me by the leading and guidance of Your Spirit to start recording the Bible references to Your name and character, as I read through Your Word.
I had become afraid that maybe this was at least partly “my” idea, just a personally enjoyable academic exercise and learning activity. But the fact that I was worrying and afraid should have told me that this doubt about Your direction had to be a ploy of the enemy. He is the one who plants doubts about You, after all — remember Eve in the garden!
So oh my goodness! I am learning so much about You, and seeing how You revealed Yourself more and more to Your people, as You sought to encourage them to come into the relationship You desired with them. Even today, in just part of chapter 15 of Exodus, Moses’ song of praise after the crossing of the Red Sea, I learned (and/or reviewed, learned more strongly) these things about You:
- You are highly exalted
- You are able to destroy human enemies, even great armies, by Yourself
- You are our strength
- You are our song (which means that You are worthy of our praise and worship and exultation)
- You are our salvation
- You are our God
- You are worthy of praise and exultation
- You are our fathers’ God (the God of all those who, having gone before us, have known You, been known by You, been in relationship with You)
- You are a warrior
- Your name is the LORD (YHWH)
- You are majestic in power (and thus, the powerful King of kings)
- You are personified as showing might through Your right hand, through the breath of Your nostrils, through Your right arm.
- You have great majesty (again, You are the King of kings)
- You throw down those who oppose You (You are a victorious conqueror over those who choose wickedness, evil, self/independence from You)
- You have “burning anger” against those who oppose You, who enslave Your children — and Your anger consumes and destroys these enemies, as you rescue Your people.
- You have control over the elements (ie. the wind) and over creation (ie the earth, the sea).
- There are no other ‘gods’ that are like You at all
- You are: – majestic in holiness
- awesome in glory
- working wonders
- You have unfailing love — with which You lead the people You have redeemed.
- In Your strength You guide Your people to Your holy dwelling [to Canaan, to heaven, to Your residence in the hearts of Your people, to abiding in You Yourself...]
- By Your power You make Your people’s enemies impotent to destroy Your people, unable even to move, until Your people are safely gone by as You lead them to Your dwelling
- You have bought Your people [from Egypt, from the power and dominion of satan and sin and death..]; You have redeemed and saved them!
- You are like a gardener, “planting” Your people in the place of Your “inheritance” [You are their Father... sharing what You have with Your children]
- Your “hands” have established Your dwelling, Your sanctuary [the place where You are, where You exists -- where "I AM", the safe dwelling place, protected, kept holy and separate from, the enemy... the place where You dwell with, abide in and with, Your children, Your family! ....]
- You reign for ever and ever [You are the eternal King of kings and Lord of Lords -- above all, over all, totally in control, ALLmighty God! ...]
- When Your people don’t know what to do, and/or have needs, they can cry out to You, and You will respond to them and supply their needs, supply the answers…
- You made decrees and laws for Your people [Yes, the "law of Moses" for the Israelites at that time... and now the "law of love", the great law - reflected and fulfilled in Jesus - Your BEing, Your love! - for all Your people, Your children, Your chosen ones!]
- You test Your people, to make their hearts known, to make their loyalty to You known [to help them know themselves as You know the, and thus given them the opportunity to choose to turn even more to You, to respond to Your love, to obey You even more as they know and love You more and more, to abide more and more in You and You in them...]
- You give wonderful promises [ie "none of the Egyptians' diseases] to Your people, with the “if” proviso, that they listen to You and do what is right in Your eyes, pay attention to Your commands and decrees. [You give them the choice to take the opportunity to accept Your love and care by coming to know You and love You and thereby trust and obey You in love and honor and worship. And You of course have made this all possible by Your sacrifice, Your redemption, Your salvation, Your own re-opening of the door to relationship with You that we closed and were totally unable to open again!]
- You are in control of all things, and You bring judgment on those who oppose You
- But You also love all those You have created, and for those who will receive Your redemption and salvation, You are also the great healer, both on the physical and the spiritual levels.
Wow! Incredible! You are good! You are love! You are God! YOU ARE!!!!
Wow! Thank You! Again! Thank You, dear Holy Spirit, dear Jesus, dear Father, for planting and growing and reaping the harvest of Your Word in my heart! Wow! Praise God!
