Penandpapermama.com, in its new incarnation, is the “hub site” for all the blogs, websites and other activities of myself, norma j hill, aka penandpapermama.

I love writing, and besides my website and blogs, I hang out on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. I have also worked free-lance for radio, have been a newspaper columnist, have published and/or edited various newsletters, and have been published in magazines.

So what about me? I am a “Jill-of-all-trades” … 

My favorite “job” is being a wife, mom of 5, and naanni (grandmother) of 8.  I am also enamoured with the adventure of lifelong learning, both formal and informal.

I have a BEd (Secondary: Social Studies/Geography and Teacher Librarianship) from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada), and a Diploma in Academic Arts from Okanagan College (Kelowna, Canada). I have taught in those subject areas, and have also taught (in both public and independent/Christian schools) other subjects including Home Economics, Core French, and English.  I have also been a teacher-on-call at elementary and secondary levels in numerous subject areas.  I have home schooled all elementary and secondary grades, and tutored at elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels, including special needs and ESL learners.

Beyond the field of education, I have also been an executive secretary, orchardist, home-based business owner (party planning, and secretarial/bookkeeping), direct sales person, custodian, apartment manager, bed and breakfast operator, waitress, and have been involved in countless other adventures, both employment-wise and volunteer.

I am a Christian, and you will find that this worldview definitely is reflected in my writing, but I enjoy examining and discussing other viewpoints as well, so feel free to share yours! Some of my favorite topics are the church, family stories, education, writing and publishing, my community (Penticton BC Canada) and Haida Gwaii (the people, and the islands!).
